OGMORE
CENTRE TRUST
Sundance Renewables completed a feasibility study for Ogmore
Residential Centre to assess the viability of installing a
renewable energy heating system. The main purpose of this
report was to provide sufficient information to support the
recommendation that Ogmore Centre Trust move away from a fossil
fuel heating and hot water supply infrastructure to a renewable
source of fuel and energy supply.
The Ogmore Centre Trust
has declared its intention to promote sustainability and energy
efficiency as part of its overall environmental programme. The
authors of this report regard it imperative to act responsibly
now, for the sake of future generations. The continued
consumption of fossil fuels has no part to play in a sustainable
future. The future is with renewable sources of energy.
There are a number of
options for the replacement of the existing fossil-fuel heating
system with one based on renewable energy. At the Ogmore
Centre, a heating system based primarily on wood fuel appears
most practical at present. It is recommended that a system be
installed which is capable of running on wood chip. This will
provide long-term flexibility and allow the cost of heating to
be minimised in the future. However, during the first heating
season, it is recommended that the system should run on wood
pellets, which will allow the wood chip infrastructure in Wales
to be developed to allow best prices to be negotiated and
maintenance-free operation in the future.
