'The county Voluntary sector Environment Forum, which is being facilitated by Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS), was launched at the Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli on Tuesday (December 7).  The purpose of the Forum is to improve networking opportunities and information exchange for groups working in the county.  It will also be an important Forum for raising awareness of the various environmental issues facing the county, and to encourage groups to get involved in positive action.

Over 50 people attended to hear presentations and to take part in workshops. The speakers included Merfyn Williams, the Executive Director of Cynnal Cymru – the SD Forum for Wales; Josie Coggins, Co-founder of Elemental Earth; Jan Cliff, Project Manager with Sundance Renewables, which is turning vegetable oil into car fuel in a joint scheme with Carmarthenshire County Council, and Councillor Pam Palmer, the county council’s Executive Board member for the Environment.

The four workshop sessions covered the following themes: Getting About (transport), Waste and recycling, Environmental Resources (including energy, water and air), and Conserving and enhancing the environment.  These groups discussed the issues are facing Carmarthenshire, and came up with ideas of how various agencies, and the Forum itself, should be working together to address these issues.'
