Ecorider's
eco-friendly biodiesel ATV
Ecorider have
developed an environmentally friendly off road quad bike,
which may be the future
in eco-friendly transport.
The Ecorider can
operate on petrol, diesel or biodiesel and is very low in fuel
consumption. When running on biodiesel the
ATV is CO2 neutral, less polluting and with 10 inch
wide tyres causes less damage than someone on foot, so does
little harm to the surrounding environment.
The Ecorider is ideal
for many activities such as farming, forestry, gamekeeping, golf, leisure and equestrian use.
Ecorider 'appreciates
that it is important that the wildlife, habitats and
landscapes which have evolved through the long partnership
between people and nature, are maintained for future
generations.'

Politicians debate CAT's new zero carbon blueprint Sustainable
Science Symposium 7-8 July
This weekend,
politicians from the four main political parties are debating
a new policy blueprint for Britain at the Centre for
Alternative Technology (CAT). The discussion about CAT's
new report, zerocarbonbritain, is part of the annual
Sustainable Science Symposium.
The report recommends a policy-driven plan for reducing
Britain’s emissions to zero by 2027. It also explores the
possible outcomes of these policies and looks at how our lives
could be different in 20 years time.
Using only existing and proven technologies, zerocarbonbritain
integrates solutions to the intimately connected issues of
climate change, energy security and global equity.
The report will
be released nationally on Monday 9 July and will also be
presented to the All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group
at the House of Commons.

Sunseed Desert Technology spends a day at CAT - Spanish
environmental organisation AGM in Mid Wales
Sunseed Desert
Technology, an environmental organisation and community based
in Southern Spain, recently held its AGM at the Centre for
Alternative Technology (CAT).
Sunseed was founded in the region of Almeria in 1982, nine
years after CAT started in 1973. While both organisations have
common aims, their extremely different natural environments
have taken their projects in very different directions.
Sunseed is set in a semi-desert with a rainfall of less than
250mm a year – in stark contrast to the heavy annual rainfall
in Mid Wales. For this reason, Sunseed has focused on dryland
revegetation projects, solar cooking and low impact building
practices. It works towards self-sufficient community living,
using organic agriculture to coax vegetables from the arid
soil.

CAT women get hitched in style - Three women hitch-hike to
Spain for an eco-friendly holiday
Three
brides got hitched by the roadside recently, when they thumbed
lifts all the way from Mid Wales to Sunseed, another
eco-centre near Almeria, Spain. Although they were not
flying, this was far from a no-frills holiday – to increase
their chances of getting lifts, the three women wore wedding
dresses throughout the journey, which took them exactly 60
hours....One return flight can emit more damaging carbon
dioxide (CO2) than a whole year of driving. When this
greenhouse gas is churned out at high altitudes, it is far
more potent than at ground level.
