This project
involved the installation of a PV system for Powys County
Council Head Quarters building. A photovoltaic array of
10.08 kWp was installed on a largely un-shaded, south-facing
roof on the existing county headquarters. The electrical
demands of a modern office fit well with the outputs from a PV
array and the public building provides a good opportunity for
demonstration and promotion of the technology. A digital
display in the foyer of the building assists with the public
understanding of the potential of PV.
Powys County Council (Welsh municipality) is
a member of the European Union's Renewable Energy Partnership
and has technology specific targets for the period to 2010.
This development would provide approximately 10% of the target
for PV's. County Hall was chosen as providing a good fit
between periods of supply and demand, and having a virtually
ideal roof slope.
The project received 55% funding from the
UK Government's Department of Trade & Industry PV Demonstration
programme, 40& additional finance from EU Objective 2 European
Regional Development Fund sourced via Powys Energy Agency, and
the final 5% raised by Powys County Council. |
